About OSCI
Who We Are
The Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI) is an independent, not-for-profit association composed of a broad range of organizations dedicated to defining and advancing SystemC™ as an open industry standard for system-level modeling, design and verification. SystemC is a language built in C++ that spans from concept to implementation in hardware and software. The IEEE Standards Association approved the standard for the SystemC library as IEEE Std. 1666™-2005.
OSCI was launched in 1999 in response to demands for a standard electronic system-level (ESL) language for SoC designers using standard C/C++. The purpose of the organization is to align on a single modeling platform to eliminate the need for multiple models, and to enable system-to-silicon design flows. The organization promotes industry-wide re-use of the development and distribution of intellectual property (IP) and recently released a new transaction-level modeling draft specification in support of this effort.
Major companies and standards organizations fully support OSCI's technical efforts, and SystemC is swiftly becoming a major, and mainstream, feature in ESL design. Companies around the world are using SystemC in a wide range of projects in numerous application areas including consumer electronics, wireless and automotive.
The IEEE 1666-2005 Standard SystemC Language Reference Manual (LRM) defines SystemC semantics to provide an unambiguous definition of the SystemC language.
The purposes of the organization include:
- Building a rich system-level design language and open source implementation based on C++ class libraries, called "SystemC"
- Encouraging availability and adoption of intellectual property (IP), tools and methodologies based on SystemC
- Providing the mechanisms that enable the continued growth of the SystemC community
- Defining interoperability criteria for IP and tools based on SystemC
- Delivering updates to the SystemC Language Reference Manual (LRM) and open source implementation
- Standardizing the SystemC language via the IEEE
