Tutorial: Introduction to SystemC AMS 1.0 Standard

Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Co-located with PATMOS 2010

STMicroelectronics (Grenoble2) SAS
12, rue Jules Horowitz
38000 Grenoble, France

Speakers:

  • Karsten Einwich, Fraunhofer IIS/EAS Dresden, DE
  • Christoph Grimm, TU Vienna, AT
  • Hassan Aboushady, Pierre et Marie Curie U, FR
  • François Pêcheux, Pierre et Marie Curie U, FR

Today's embedded systems are heterogeneous in nature. They interact more tightly with the analog physical environment, where digital HW/SW subsystems assist analogue/mixed-signal (AMS) blocks such as RF interfaces, power electronics, sensors and actuators. Examples are cognitive radios, sensor networks or systems for image sensing. Building these systems require new means to model and simulate the interaction between subsystems belonging to many disciplines, at functional and architecture level. Especially for this purpose, the SystemC language standard has been extended with AMS capabilities.

The tutorial aims at presenting the motivation and unique capacities of the SystemC AMS extensions for industrial applications, with emphasis on wireless communication and automotive. It is composed of two parts. The first part will explain the standard, the methodology and the language constructs. The second part will be dedicated to hands-on SystemC-AMS modeling exercices. In practice, attendees will develop a BASK (Binary Amplitude Shift Keying) system from scratch. The tutorial ends with a presentation of more complex examples (sigma delta ADC, complete QPSK transmission link, etc) and a wrap-up.

The tutorial targets hardware and system engineers, architects and verification engineers active in industrial projects where analogue and digital functionalities are interwoven. The tutorial will bring hands-on experience on how to efficiently use the SystemC AMS extensions for system design and verification tasks.

Registration: This tutorial is free of charge for registered participants. Separate registration is required. Find out more and register.

European SystemC User's Group (ESCUG) Meeting

Co-located with Forum for Design Languages (FDL)
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
16:00-19:00
Southampton, UK

Detailed information will be available at www.ti.uni-tuebingen.de/escug.

Call for contributions (User's Forum): We will traditionally provide possibilities for SystemC users to present and discuss their experience with SystemC. Participants who are interested in presenting their work are very welcome and should send title and a short abstract by August 31, 2010 to axel.braun@informatik.uni-tuebingen.de.

Call for contributions (Supplier's Forum): We are also providing a Suppliers Forum at this meeting. This part of the meeting is a platform for SystemC EDA vendors to present technical views of theirs methodologies, tools, and libraries. If you are interested, please send a description of the demonstration by August 31, 2010 to axel.braun@informatik.uni-tuebingen.de.

SystemC AMS Extensions
Thursday, September 16, 2010
13:30-15:00
Chair: Karsten Einwich, FhG-IIS EAS Dresden

The SystemC AMS extensions that have been standardized by OSCI in March 2010 have triggered a number of research projects and activities. This invited session gives an overview of ongoing research based on and related to SystemC AMS extensions. The first three papers describe concrete modeling examples. The last paper proposes a new kind of solver that is able to simulate the ELN model of computation in a more efficient way.

  • Towards High-Level Executable Specifications of Heterogeneous Systems with SystemC-AMS: Application to a Manycore PCR-CE Lab on Chip for DNA Sequencing
François Pêcheux, Amr Habib (University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris)
  • Modeling Switched Capacitor Sigma Delta Modulator Nonidealities in SystemC-AMS
Sumit Adhikari, Christoph Grimm (Vienna University of Technology)
  • Design of Experiments for Reliable Operation of Electronics in Automotive Applications
Monica Rafaila, Jérôme Kirscher, Christian Decker, and Georg Pelz (Infineon Technologies), Christoph Grimm (Vienna University of Technology)
  • Using SystemCAMS for Heterogeneous Systems Modelling at TIER-1 Level

Co-located with ESWeek 2010

Call for Contributions Now Open:
www.nascug.org/abstracts/

NASCUG is calling for contributions for the 14th NASCUG meeting to be co-located with Embedd Systems Week (ESWeek) on October 25, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona. A central component of the half-day meeting consists of 20-minute presentations from users discussing techniques of design, modeling and verification using SystemC. In-depth "how to" tutorials of 40-minutes may also be included.

Important Dates:

  • Abstract Deadline: September 6, 2010
  • Notification: September 22, 2010
  • Final Slides Due: October 17, 2010

Topics include (but are not restricted to):

  • Architectural Modeling with SystemC
  • Transaction-Level Modeling
  • Software Co-Design with SystemC
  • Platform Design Using SystemC
  • Analog Modeling with SystemC AMS
  • Verification Techniques Using SystemC
  • Integrating SystemC into the Design Flow
  • SystemC Tool Flows and Methodologies
  • SystemC Language Development
  • Synthesis with SystemC/C++

Submission Requirements

The final contribution should be a PowerPoint or PDF slide presentation with duration of about 20 minutes (for "how-to" presentations approval may be given for up to 40 minutes). Presentations are expected to be of current topical interest to attendees and should consider the following:
