Carbon Design Systems Announces 28% Growth in 2009

Ends Year with 12 New Major Accounts, Leading Third-Party IP Partners, Pre-Qualified ARM Models

ACTON, MASS. -- January 13, 2010 -- Carbon Design Systems(tm) announced today that it closed calendar year 2009 with 12 new major accounts in key market segments worldwide, including wireless and consumer electronics, and posted year-over-year growth of 28%.

Carbon's growth was especially notable in Europe and Asia.

"Despite a difficult economic climate, we continued to gain market momentum in 2009," remarks Rick Lucier, Carbon's president and chief executive officer. "We accomplished this by adding a host of marquee names to our customer list and by gaining endorsements from major IP vendors. We are excited about the prospects for 2010 with significant products being rolled out in the first half of the year, along with additions to our growing portfolio of IP partners."

A number of products and partnerships helped drive Carbon's success in 2009. It is the only company to offer a complete system validation solution that combines 100% accurate models of internal and third-party intellectual property (IP) vendors, and a simulation environment to handle every level of abstraction.

In 2009, Carbon rolled out implementation-accurate virtual models for leading ARM processors and peripherals. It formed partnerships with companies including Tensilica, VeriSilicon and CEVA to enable users of its SoC (system-on-chip) Designer to leverage their IP. In addition, MIPS and other leading IP companies adopted Carbon to create models of their IP for external distribution.

Moving into 2010, Carbon's focus will remain on reducing the time, effort and cost required to produce and maintain virtual platforms at all levels of abstraction. It will broaden its product line and expand its partnerships and alliances to meet the needs of design teams using its tools. Carbon will roll out the integration of Fast Models from ARM with SoC Designer and will continue to work to expand the adoption of TLM-2.0 for AMBA with cycle-accurate definitions.
